Advancing Inclusive Agricultural Mechanization through Participatory Technology Development

CONESAM played a key role in the Participatory Technology Demonstration event TEXTunder the RISA-KECC project, contributing actively to discussions aimed at strengthening agricultural mechanization and innovation in Nigeria. The engagement focused on critical thematic areas, particularly the technical, financial, and economic analysis of agricultural machinery. These discussions were designed to reduce the risks associated with adopting new technologies, helping farmers, fabricators, and agribusinesses make informed decisions while encouraging sustainable investment in mechanized solutions. Beyond analysis, CONESAM worked alongside key stakeholders to promote collaboration as a driver of innovation. This collective approach has proven essential in accelerating the adoption of appropriate technologies and building confidence across the agricultural value chain. Another major focus of the event was strengthening local technology delivery systems through Participatory Technology Development (PTD). The discussions addressed long-standing challenges around the limited inclusion of local manufacturers and fabricators, emphasizing the need for greater engagement with domestic industry to ensure that innovation is locally relevant, scalable, and inclusive. Through its participation, CONESAM reaffirmed its commitment to fostering a collaborative, risk-aware, and inclusive agricultural technology ecosystem—one that supports local innovation, enhances mechanization uptake, and contributes to a more efficient and sustainable future for agriculture.
