RISA Team Visits Nigeria as CONESAM Showcases Progress in Machine Fabrication
Following the successful completion of the RISA–KECC project in 2023, the RISA team recently visited Nigeria to participate in an innovation showcase event highlighting the progress and achievements of Participatory Technology Development (PTD) in distributed manufacturing. The event served as a platform to demonstrate how collaborative innovation can drive sustainable agricultural mechanization and industrial growth.
The showcase, led by the Coalition Network of Stakeholders in Agricultural Mechanization (CONESAM), emphasized PTD as a sustainable and inclusive model for technology development. Within the Cascaded Commercialization component of the RISA–KECC initiative, PTD has proven critical in bridging the gap between research, fabrication, and market readiness—ensuring that technologies are practical, locally relevant, and scalable.
The RISA team’s visit provided an opportunity for technical evaluation and in-depth discussions around CONESAM’s strategic programming. Key areas of focus included strengthening manufacturing capacity, expanding knowledge exchange, enhancing stakeholder networks, and aligning innovation efforts with national agricultural and industrial development priorities.
The delegation was warmly received with comprehensive technical briefings delivered by Dr. Jummai Tutuwa Adamu, Director-General of the Federal Institute of Industrial Research Oshodi (FIIRO), represented by Dr. Lawal Kolawole, Director of Biotechnology at FIIRO, and Mr. Kolawole Adekunle, Supervising Zonal Director (South-West) of the National Board for Technology Incubation – Technology Incubation Centre (NBTI/TIC). These presentations highlighted institutional support for innovation, research translation, and technology incubation in Nigeria.
The event brought together a diverse group of stakeholders, including engineers, masters-in-training, technical experts, and potential investors with a shared interest in locally fabricated technologies. Their participation underscored the growing confidence in home-grown manufacturing solutions and the value of collaborative platforms in accelerating technology adoption.
Supported by partners such as the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Chemonics, Adam Smith International, the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, the National Board for Technology Incubation, and the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), the engagement reaffirmed a collective commitment to advancing innovation-driven development.
Overall, the RISA team visit marked an important milestone in showcasing the tangible outcomes of the RISA–KECC initiative and CONESAM’s leadership in promoting inclusive, sustainable machine fabrication and agricultural mechanization in Nigeria.
